Broccoli Cheese Bites

Image
Broccoli seems to be one of those veggies that you either love or hate. It has always been one of my favorite vegetables, especially topped with lots of cheese, but even if you’re not a fan, I think you’re going to really like this recipe, not only because it’s incredibly easy (4 ingredients!!), but these little broccoli cheese bites are really yummy, too. This is my favorite way to get my kids to eat their veggies because the broccoli is disguised so well, they don’t even realize they’re eating something healthy. They LOVE them! We like to eat them dipped in ranch as an after school snack. Do you like broccoli? I LOVE, seriously love broccoli. Favorite way to eat it? Steamed, served with a little mayo. I wish more people shared my enthusiasm. If you are in the not-so-sure-about-broccoli camp, or are cooking for someone who needs to eat more vegetables but is less than enthused at the prospect, this is the recipe for you. What’s the one thing that makes broccoli taste grea...

Bang bang cauliflower

Image
Seriously, who knew cauliflower could be such a chameleon. I mean, once it’s prepped and tossed up in the sweet and spicy chilli sauce it’s hard to believe that it’s even cauliflower hidden under there! WHY I LOVE CAULIFLOWER: I love cauliflower in vegetarian cooking for its versatility. You can turn it into soup, rice and now even deliciously batter-coated bites! Cauliflower has a great dense and meaty texture, so it’s really satiating as far as veggies go. It also contains tons of vitamins, fibre and antioxidants. So basically you should be making this recipe on the reg. (I know I’ve been…) This bang bang cauliflower can be served up as a main dish over rice, or served up for as an Asian style appetizer. You could even serve these as a veggie option at a holiday party. Just leave some toothpicks by the bowl and let your guests pick away! Cauliflower is such a great ingredient at this time of year. It’s one of my favourite vegetables as there are so many amazing things you c...

Carrot Cake for One

Image
Is this not the cutest cake you have ever seen?? It’s a carrot cake for one person, and not only is it cute: it tastes amazing! And it is totally legitimate breakfast food. You could also use it as a snack or dessert. With spring in the air, my mind was on carrot cake. I have several carrot-cake-inspired recipes on my list of recipe ideas, but a THM:E single-serve carrot cake won out. It turned out even better than I had hoped it would, and I had so much fun photographing it. In my family, the cake that is always requested for birthday celebrations or other events is a Carrot Cake. I’m totally fine with that request because I happen to love carrot cake too. A few months ago, for my son’s 20th birthday, I made a non-traditional style carrot cake for him. I say it was non-traditional because I normally make a two-layer carrot cake with a cream cheese filling between the layers. This time, I baked the cake in a pretty bundt pan. I also topped the cake with a orange glaze very sim...

Grandma's Chocolate Ribbon Dessert

Image
This particular recipe holds a special place in my heart.  This my Grandma Carole’s chocolate ribbon dessert recipe.  My Grandma may not have cooked or baked much, but the things that she did make are filled with some very sweet memories for me.  I believe this is one recipe that reminds all my family of Grandma.  I was thinking about no-bake type recipes the other day and this one popped in my head.  It is near no-bake.  The crust has to be baked, but the rest is mix, spread and refrigerate.  Don’t let the simplicity fool you.  This is a truly delicious dessert.  The creamy layers are rich and will fix a chocolate craving.  I hope you love this recipe as much as our family does. The crust is simply flour, butter and ground nuts.  I put all 3 ingredients in a food processor and pulse until it is well mixed.  Sprinkle the crust in a lightly greased 9×13 baking dish.  Press the crust down and bake for 17 minutes at 350 deg...

AMAZING KETO GARLIC KNOTS

Image
Better than garlic bread, rolls, or breadsticks! These keto garlic knots are the perfect cheesy garlic appetizer for anyone on a low carb or gluten free diet. These garlic knots are so good that it feels like I’m cheating every time I take a bite. I almost can’t believe they’re keto and low carb. They smell and taste amazing straight out of the oven — pillowy soft and cheesy, with strong garlic flavors. They look and taste like the real deal. The parmesan cheese and garlic butter toppings take it to the next level. Serve them as an appetizer for low carb pizza, save them for a snack, or eat them all for dinner. Anything works. Enjoy! This recipe for cheesy keto garlic bread is the Holy Grail for keto bread  – using mozzarella dough. Mozzarella dough garlic bread is the best keto garlic bread recipe I have ever made, and the beauty is that it’s only 1.5g net carbs per slice (makes 10 slices). If you are new here, you may have stumbled upon Fat Head dough recipe. It is...

CAKE MIX LEMON SWEET ROLLS

Image
Good morning! If your week has been anything like mine, your in need of a pick me up and a little sunshine :) Today I have just the thing for you, Lemon Rolls or we could just call them sunshine rolls! A few weeks ago Christy at Made From The Oven posted some easy cinnamon rolls made from a cake mix. She even tried some in chocolate and added sprinkles for a birthday cinnamon roll. I knew I had to try out her recipe, and I'm so glad I did! When I went to pull out a cake mix from my baking cabinet and came across the lemon cake mix I've been avoiding. I never really like lemon desserts but I bought the cake mix telling myself I needed to try to make a summery treat with it. I've never had a lemon roll before...so why not give it a try. The result was shocking. Seriously. Amazing. I was really shocked how much everybody loved these, even though most everybody had claimed to not care for lemon. I started with Christy's orignial recipe then swaped out the cake flav...

RECIPES SIMPLE WITH FAMILY: Vegan Magic Bars!

Image
Chances are you’ve probably seen at least one version of this traditional potluck favorite dessert, which goes by many names: Hello Dolly Bars, Coconut Dream Bars, Seven Layer Bars, Magic Cookie Bars, Coconut Magic Squares… Over the years, these bars have been one of the most frequent recipe requests I’ve gotten from readers, and it’s not hard to see why the recipe is so popular! A soft graham cracker crust topped with layers of coconut and chocolate makes the bars truly as magical as their title suggests. And while traditional magic square recipes call for sweetened condensed milk, eggs, and at least a third cup of butter, I’ve cut all of that out in this new healthier and vegan recipe… and absolutely no one I’ve ever served them to has noticed a difference! My family makes these “magic bars” every year during our big holiday-baking party. I’m pretty sure that the recipe came from the wrapper of a sweetened condensed milk can, but over the years we’ve made it our own by elimi...

Healthy No Bake Ferrero Rocher Keto Fat Bombs (Paleo & Vegan)

Image
Ketogenic fat bombs are such a blessing for everyone who is living the low carb lifestyle. Yes, the sugar cravings will (almost) disappear once you’re completely fat adapted but were only human and most of us still want something sweet once in a while. I also think it’s not exactly a “sugar craving” you’re having if you’ve been fat adapted long enough – you’re not craving the nasty feeling on your teeth or the sluggishness afterward. You’re simply craving something sweet & tasty. I’m sorry if all my posts either seem to be no bake recipes, sweet recipes, breakfast ideas (which are sweet) or the soap opera called ‘Keeping up with the Liew-dashians.’ Actually, I take that back, minus the last bit. I’m not sorry that my recipes are mostly sweet, breakfast designated or no bake- That’s what the majority of readers seem to enjoy and I enjoy making them. That, my friends, is win-win. After my recent newsletter, I had quite a few readers email saying while they enjoyed the rec...

Cheesecake Fat Bombs – Keto and Low Carb

Image
If you like cheesecake and are looking for a quick high fat snack to satisfy your craving for something sweet, you will love these Cheesecake Fat Bombs!  Just a few simple steps and you will have wonderful little bites of cheesecake goodness! I actually wrote this recipe for my best friend, who sometimes struggles with nighttime sweets cravings.  She is often challenged with not having enough healthy fats, so this recipe helps her in both areas!  I delivered them to her at lunch yesterday and I’m happy to report she thought they were “phenomenal”! These cheesecake fat bombs are super delicious. In this recipe, I’ve been able to create a fat bomb that is actually enjoyable to eat, which doesn’t just taste like coconut or plain old butter. I devoured the whole batch within a week, so I’m guessing that’s a good sign. VANILLA CHOCOLATE CHEESECAKE FAT BOMB These mini cupcake sized bombs are vanilla flavour on the bottom and chocolate flavour on the top. The bottom is...

INSTANT POT ANGEL FOOD CAKE WITH POWDERED SUGAR GLAZE

Image
I’m a sucker for angel food cake, probably because my Grandma made it for me as a child for each and every birthday. I love that it is a fat free cake too so I don’t feel guilty if I have an extra piece on “those days” and when I made this Instant Pot angel food cake it came out super fluffy like it does in the oven too!! I have made many Instant Pot dessert recipes before but I must say this was the easiest and brought back a lot of memories too. It didn’t last long when my family got home either…it became an after school treat right away. Definitely one of my favorite Instant Pot recipes here on The Typical Mom. (originally published 10/17) This is what you’ll need and how to make Instant Pot angel food cake! Angel Food Cake mix – this is the one I use 7″ Angel Food Cake pan – seriously it is so cute – if that is out of stock this 6″ pan will fit in your 6 qt or this 8″ pan will fit in your 8 qt IP Water Instant Pot or pressure cooker – this is the one I have Raspberry ...

Don't Break my Heart Chocolate Valentine Bark

Image
Sometimes things make more sense in your head than in real life. For instance, in my head this seemed brilliant and when I showed the finished product to Rob he was enthusiastic (well as enthusiastic as he tends to get :) about how pretty it was and how neat it was. He then asked what the hammer was for… um, oops. So I had the brilliant idea to make a Valentine gift in the form a chocolate bark heart. I mean, chocolate bark is stupid easy to make and can easily be made into shapes. And when I saw an 8″ heart cake pan at Amazon there was no way I wasn’t having it. And when I realized that it would be the perfect Valentine heart chocolate bark shape, it was on like, well, Donkey Kong, I suppose. So I made my thing. I was proud of my thing. It was just as I pictured it in my head. And then Rob asked “why would you want to give somebody your heart to break on Valentine’s Day?” Oh. Crud. I am all about personalized gifts and even better when they are homemade. My husband isn’t fond...

easy heart shaped cinnamon rolls for Valetine's Day

Image
So before we get started I have to tell you a funny story. As I was working on today’s recipe (these adorable heart shaped cinnamon rolls) I tried out a couple variations, which means we ended up with a gazillion cinnamon rolls. After I got them all photographed and let the kids each eat one I suggested that we put the rest on a plate and take them to a neighbor. One of my kids said, “Well, mom, since these aren’t from scratch I’m not sure they’re actually good enough to give away to neighbors…” and I got worried maybe they didn’t taste that great…until I realized my scheming child just wanted to make sure that not one cinnamon roll left our home to be eaten elsewhere 🙂 Heart-Shaped Cinnamon Rolls - the cutest and best cinnamon rolls ever, made into heart shape and stuffed with red cherries. So adorable! Valentine’s Day is coming up in less than 10 days and I am sure you love birds are looking for creative ideas to make for the special day. I have the perfect recipe for you...

VALENTINE FOOD CRAFT | TIC TAC TOE TOAST

Image
Looking for a creative lunch or breakfast idea for the kids? This Valentine’s Day Food Craft is cute, easy, and unique. Tic-Tac-Toe Toast uses peanut butter and conversational hearts! See who wins first! A few months back I mentioned here that my girls love planning Tic Tac Toe. I even included a fun Halloween themed printable for all to enjoy Tic Tac Toe. That was then, but this is now. I mean Halloween is most definitely in the past for now. But that doesn’t mean my own kids’ love of Tic Tac Toe has diminished by any means. So, we have to find new and creative ways to continue to enjoy Tic Tac Toe here that is seasonably appropriate. Well with Valentine’s Day, yet again being central here for us, it makes sense to think in terms of Valentine’s Day for Tic Tac Toe. In that vain, I recently just bought Valentine’s themed conversation hearts. You know the hearts I am talking about. Those adorable little sugary hearts that have all sorts of fun little sayings on them for Valen...

Cranberry-Orange Pinwheel Cookies

Image
A soft pinwheel cookie with a burst of festive color from the cranberry and pecan filling. You might remember these from last year. They’re a tradition in this house. An absolute must. When I asked The Mr recently what his top 5 favorite cookies were, these were on the list. Of course he couldn’t even give me a list of 5 but that’s not the point. I’ve been making them for Christmas easily the last 6 years or more. I like making these for the aromas. The orange zest and cranberries give off wonderful fragrances. How something smells is just as important as how it looks and tastes, to me anyway. And these smell incredible. They also have a nice light taste. You can eat cookie after cookie without having a heavy feeling in your stomach like certain other desserts can cause Cranberry-Orange Pinwheel Cookies Yield:  Roughly 4 dozen cookies Cook Time:  8-10 minutes Total Time:  24+ hours Ingredients: 1C fresh cranberries 1C pecans 1/4C light brown sugar...

NUTELLA MUG CAKE

Image
This single serving Nutella mug cake is ridiculously easy to make with just 3 ingredients. It's rich, dense, chocolatey and everything a flourless cake should be. You may recall earlier last year I posted my 2 Ingredient Flourless Nutella Mug Cake, a recipe I created for my 5-Minute Mug Cakes* cookbook. It remains one of my favorite recipes to date, but a lot of readers were avoiding it because the recipe requires the cake to rest for several hours (even though it only takes 5 minutes to make). Nutella Mug Cake Ingredients:  1/4 cup Nutella  1 large egg  1/2 tbsp dutch processed cocoa powder Directions: Combine all ingredients in an oversized microwave-safe mug. Mix vigorously with a small whisk until batter is smooth and the egg has been completely mixed in. Cook in the microwave for about 1 minute 10 seconds. The cake should be set but may be slightly wet on top. Let cake cool for 15 minutes before serving. The cake will condense down during this cool...

Cherry Pineapple Dump Cake

Image
This truly is one of my favorite desserts. I am so glad you stopped by today. If you have a party or family gathering, this is perfect. It is like a cobbler cake.  Don’t expect it to come out neat and cake like, because it does not. This is a scooper cake, not a cake you turn over in the pan. It’s as easy as 1,2 3.  You can whip this up and have it in the oven all in 5 minutes. Cherry Pineapple Dump Cake Prep Time 5 minutes Servings: 4 Ingredients 1 21 oz. Canned cherry pie filling 1 15.5 oz.-20 oz is ok Canned crushed pineapple 1 Yellow box Cake mix  Chopped Walnuts 1 stick of butter Instructions Lightly spray a bundt pan, or pan of choice.
